Techniques: 3D CNC Carving
The beautiful flowing wave formation was cut using modelboard and a ball-nosed tool, making the most of a CNC router’s 3D carving facilities, to create an interesting and unique looking piece either on its own, or as part of a larger. Simply import this .stl file into Vcarve to get started.
We recommend using two toolpaths, a 3D Roughing toolpath, and a 3D finishing toolpath
Start by using a large end mill with the 3D roughing tool path to hog out the majority of the material. Secondly, you will need to generate a 3D finishing toolpath using a small ball nose cutter, we used a 3mm diameter cutter here to really get the fine detail.
