Your questions answered
FAQ for Plastic Fabricators
Can it cut plastics cleanly without melting or chipping?
Yes. Our CNC routers are engineered for high-speed cutting of plastics. With the correct tooling—typically a single-flute or polished O-flute—and the right feed rates, you’ll get smooth, clean edges with minimal burrs and no melting. We cover all of this during training.
What types of plastics can it cut?
Our machines are used to cut a wide range of plastics, including acrylic (PMMA), polycarbonate, PETG, ABS, HDPE, PVC, and polypropylene. The Olympus and Pegasus series can also handle layered and foamed plastics, depending on the tool and speed setup.
Will the edges be smooth enough for bonded or polished applications?
Yes, especially with a polished O-flute bit. Many of our plastic fabrication customers get flame-polish-quality finishes straight off the machine. For glue bonding or solvent welding, a clean edge is essential—and that’s what our routers provide.
Can it hold tight tolerances for precision plastic components?
Absolutely. Our machines use servo motors (Yaskawa) and precision drive systems, so you’ll get repeatable accuracy—ideal for cut-to-size jobs or components that need to fit together tightly.
What about small parts? Will they move during cutting?
That’s where our custom-designed matrix vacuum bed makes a difference. It gives strong hold-down power even for smaller or narrow pieces. We also show you techniques like onion skinning (leaving a thin layer) or using vacuum pods for tricky shapes.
Will it produce static when cutting plastics?
Static build-up can be an issue in plastic fabrication, but our machines are earthed properly and paired with high-powered extraction to help minimise static cling. We also recommend using anti-static spray in high-friction applications.
What extraction system is included?
Toggle Each machine comes with a 5.5kW or 7.5kW industrial extraction unit capable of handling both plastic swarf and dust. It’s fully compatible with plastic waste and helps keep the work area clean and the cut path clear.
Can I change tools easily for drilling or profiling jobs?
Yes, the automatic tool changer (ATC) allows you to switch between tools like end mills, engraving bits, or drill bits in one job. This saves time and ensures each process is done with the right tool.
Can it engrave serial numbers or text into plastic parts?
Yes. You can use smaller engraving bits and assign toolpaths for text, logos, or serial markings. We supply VCarve Pro, which includes engraving tools and simulation to preview the result.
What about nesting and material optimisation?
VCarve Pro has built-in nesting to optimise sheet layouts and minimise waste. It’s ideal for high-volume or batch fabrication work—saving you time and maximising your yield per sheet.
